Students consider and discuss the maps and diagrams of Sydney Metro Northwest. They map features such as tunnels, the skytrain, train stations, car parks, bus terminals and schools using a scale and a grid. They create an aerial view artwork from this mapping activity, and create an interactive board game using the map coordinates, directions and features.

Stage 2 & Stage 3 - Creating virtual 3D Sydney Metro stations
In the lesson for stages 2 and 3 students consider and compare the features of a traditional railway station and Sydney Metro Northwest station design plans. Using stage appropriate design processes and strategies, students then create their own virtual 3D Sydney Metro Northwest railway station showcasing both traditional and contemporary features of train travel using design software such as Minecraft on iPads or computers using Google Sketchup 8 or Lego Digital Designer.
