Fun with Robots incursion
Sydney Metro invites Stage 2 and Stage 3 teachers near Sydney Metro’s railway alignment to help their students get a taste of programming using an educational robot called Dash and an easy drag-and-drop visual coding tool called Blockly.
Sydney Metro has designed a classroom-ready, syllabus-aligned workshop for Stage 2 and 3 students. Eligible schools* will have two weeks to borrow a classroom set of 13 Dash Robots and iPads with Challenge Mats and Cards. The program comes with presentation slides, video and facilitator guide.
Students work in small groups to explore a series of challenges relating to Sydney Metro – Australia’s first fully-automated rail network.
This self-paced program provides students with hands-on experience to use programming and test the functionality of “automated trains”. Students will have the opportunity to identify, organise and perform strategic roles within a group to solve a program. The program has been successfully trialled by more than 300 students from our local primary schools.
Teachers must have access to large indoor or undercover space to facilitate workshop.

What people are saying
The students at Tempe Public School had a fantastic time working with the Metro Rail Dash Bots, it was great to see all students so engaged in the hands-on learning. The challenges allowed them to problem solve and develop their coding skills, while gaining an understanding of how a driver less train works. They have all asked when they can use them again! The kids had an absolute blast. It would be amazing to get the opportunity to borrow them again in term 4. Thanks for organising! Stage 2 Teacher, Tempe Public School
We had a great session with over 90 students involved in the whole program over Term 2. Teacher, Petersham Public School.
