The NSW Government has announced that Sydney’s next big public transport project will be a new underground metro railway linking the Parramatta and Sydney CBDs, and communities along the way.

It will be known as Sydney Metro West.

The project addresses Sydney’s rapid growth, with an extra 420,000 people expected to move into the corridor between Greater Parramatta and central Sydney over the next 20 years.

Transport for NSW will now start talking with the community and industry about potential station locations. Key precincts already identified to be serviced by Sydney Metro West include Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, Bays Precinct and into the Sydney CBD.

The new railway is expected to be built largely underground and operational in the second half of the 2020s.
