The new Martin Place metro station is taking shape with the construction of the transport precinct nearing completion ahead of metro services starting through the city next year.

The metro platforms located 25 metres below ground level are almost complete, with all tiles and wall panels in place and the finishing touches now being made, including the installation of signage and seating along the 170-metre-long platforms.

All 25 new escalators to take commuters around the new station are currently undergoing testing and commissioning, while 14 lift shafts are ready to be fitted with elevators.

The new metro precinct will include about 3,000sqm of retail, dining and beverage outlets over three floors. All shopfronts in the station have been installed, with tenants handed the keys to start their fit-out early next year.

Passengers can look forward to seamless connectivity due to a newly built all-weather pedestrian walkway linking Martin Place and Hunter Street, along with easy and direct access to existing platforms at Martin Place Station to join Sydney Trains services on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line.

When Sydney Metro services start through the city, including under the harbour, passengers will have access to fast and reliable metro trips including from Martin Place to Central in four minutes, to Victoria Cross in Sydney’s north in 5 minutes and to Sydenham in 11 minutes.
